The end of May marks the "unofficial" kick-off for Summer! AND the first release of the Summer Shawls & Sips Collection...H-E-L-L-O Paloma!!
When dreaming up this Collection, I wanted simple, wearable pieces. But with enough flair or fun in them to not make them boring as you knit your new favorite accessory. During the summer months, I like to have simple and easy projects on my needles as we run around trying to do all the things before the snow falls again. And I love having something on my needles all year round.
In addition to my love to design show off gorgeous fibers, I also love to explore new recipes and concoctions to create fun mocktails. And who doesn't love a pretty sip in their fancy glass to enjoy in the evenings or afternoon sitting in the sun or by an outdoor fire?
You can find more on the Paloma Shawl here...it's a fabulous beginner project and great for that next project you just don't want to think too hard about...have fun!
With the Summer Shawls & Sips collection, you not only receive the pattern but a fun mocktail and cocktail recipe to enjoy and share with your friends! I want to give you a little taste of what to expect so I'm sharing the mocktail version of my Paloma...
The Paloma is the epitome of a no-fuss summer sip. This iconic Mexican drink balances sweet, sour, and salty notes, and comes together in just a minute or two.
MOCKTAIL RECIPE
Ingredients (Makes 1)
1 lime, juiced
2 oz. fresh grapefruit juice (¼ cup) or Jarritos Grapefruit Soda
1 TBSP agave syrup (or 1 tsp sugar)
Pinch of salt
2 oz. club soda or soda water (¼ cup)
Optional: 2 oz. Alcohol-Free Tequila (I prefer Almave Blanco or Free Spirits Tequila)
Ice
Grapefruit wedge, for garnish
Preparation
Fill a cocktail shaker with ice, then add lime juice, grapefruit juice, agave syrup or sugar, and salt. Cover and shake for thirty seconds. If using, add Alcohol-Free Tequila and give it another good shake.
Open the cocktail shaker and pour the ice and liquid into your glass. Top off with the club soda, add your grapefruit wedge garnish and enjoy!
MIX IT UP...
Looking for something a little spicy?? Add 3-4 Jalapeño slices in your shaker and garnish.
Want it a bit more salty, like a margarita?? Pour some kosher salt on a plate, rub your glass rim with the grapefruit wedge, and dip your glass rim in the salt.
For a refreshing flavor, try this: If you’re using agave syrup or have plain simple syrup on hand, add fresh rosemary to the glass along with the agave syrup or simple syrup, and muddle the rosemary by pressing down and twisting a few times to release some of the essential oils. Continue the recipe as noted above.
